We again wish to remind you of the following… In November, from Friday, November 9 through Sunday, November 11, faith communities throughout the nation will observe a special time as they unite for National Donor Sabbath to increase awareness of the critical need for organs and tissues and the miracle of transplantation. Your place as a respected religious leader in your community offers you the opportunity to lead your congregation by simply including organ and tissue donor awareness in your regularly scheduled Sabbath services (insert date and date here). As a religious leader you can participate in discussions of donation with congregants and affirm the choice to be an organ and tissue donor, which offers the opportunity to share the greatest blessing of all–the gift of life.

More than 76,000 American men, women and children are on the organ transplant waiting list. Last year more than 22,000 organs were transplanted. Yet an average of 15 people a day now die because the healthy organ was not available. Your participation, of course, may vary from simply announcing this special event and making literature available to including comments about organ and tissue donation in your sermon. Or you may wish to invite a speaker about the issues involved. For any or all of these efforts, we are eager to assist you.
